The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is a 24 year-old non-profit educational organization dedicated to achieving equity and full-participation for women in science and technology.
AWIS will be participating in the UN Beijing Conference in September with the Once and Future Action network (OFAN ) through mentoring workshops and an exhibition in the OFAN Science and Technology Pavilion. The ultimate goals of mentoring projects are to develop students' confidence, increase the number of women who attain degrees in science, and help them begin successful careers.
The organization seeks input on mentoring experiences, either positive or negative, in different cultural settings or fields for its Beijing workshops. Please e-mail your experiences, thoughts, references or materials at awis@access.digex.net.
They are also looking for pictures and posters of women scientists throughout the world. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Amanda Barnhart or Junko Hala, 155, K Street, NW., Suite 820, Washington D.C. 20005, (202) 408-0742.
