The 8th International Conference of the Gender and Science and Technology Association (GASAT 8) was held in Ahmedabad, India, on January 5-10, 1996. GASAT is an international association concerned with issues arising from interactions between gender and science and technology. The theme of the conference was: Towards Sustainable Development – Achieving Four E's: Education, Employment, Equality, Empowerment. Over 300 scientists, educators and researchers attended to discuss education, technology transfer, innovation, and women's representation in science and technology professions. The evolved format of the conferences is one that focusses on: papers circulated to participants on specific issues; workshops; and more formally organised symposia.
